Dear Scout Camper,

We are only a few short weeks away from the 2023 Vancouver Island Summer Camp and I hope you are as excited as we are! Our program and administration team have been busy planning the activities for camp this year, and our Offer of Service teams are already meeting and planning their areas of camp so you can expect an awesome time this summer!

In this email there are a few things to make note of, so please read it carefully as we want everyone to register for the right activities and get their 2023 Summer Camp Tee Shirt.

What to Bring

We have a lot of activities planned this year and we want everyone to be safe! To help youth prepare for camp, we have compiled some basic kit lists that will help when packing your bags! Please pay attention to the additional clothing and footwear for the activity sections, and remember all campers - youth and adults - must wear a sun hat or cap at all times!. We only allow flip-flops and open toe sandals/water shoes during free time swimming activities. At all other times, closed toe footwear must be worn. The campground has many uneven and rocky surfaces and we want to avoid injuries! To download the kit list, you can visit http://visummercamp.ca/equipment-lists. (all safety equipment is provided).

The Kit Lists can also be found in your Parent Portal.

Parents - the equipment list is especially important as it includes equipment for safe hiking and attire during camp. If your youth does not have appropriate footwear, backpack or other essential items, they may be unable to take part in activities. Each year we have youth arrive without the appropriate clothing and/equipment. If you have questions regarding equipment and footwear, please contact the Registrar.

Camp Dates

This year, camp starts on Sunday 16 July. Registration for campers will open at the drop off point at 9am, so please be prompt. Campers are to arrive in Full Uniform as we will have an official flag break once everyone is on site. Pick up for campers is the following Saturday 22 July, at 4pm from the same place. We start camp on the Sunday to provide time for our large volunteer team to get everything ready on site for the campers to arrive. If you are traveling from the ferries and need to leave earlier in the day on the Sunday we can make appropriate arrangements.

Getting Here

The VI Scout Summer Camp uses Camp Woodlands on the shores of Lake Cowichan as our base. Directions to the camp can be found on our website and in the Parent Portal.

Changed Your Mind?

We have 18 youth on our waitlist, so if your plans have changed, please contact the registrar to free up your place for another camper.

In The Loop

This year, we have partnered with Date In Your Diary to enable us to send SMS messages to scout camper families. When we send updates, or need to communicate with families, we do it through SMS, email and through our Facebook page. If you haven't signed up on our DIYD group, please visit Date In Your Diary and register for FREE.
