Get Ready for the 2018 Vancouver Island Scout Summer Camp

Summer Camp Update

It's almost time for the 2018 Vancouver Island Scout Summer Camp, and we have some important information to share with you! Please read this carefully and make sure to register for your overnight trip preferences and any shuttle bus (for lower mainland travelers).

Final Payments

Final payments are now due. If you need to make your final payment using your credit card, please visit visummercamp.ca/payments/pay-with-card.php and submit any balance due. Once logged in you will be able to see payments already made on your account.

Overnight Trips

We have 3 trips going out during the summer camp week and youth need to register for one of these. Please visit here to register for your perference and additional activities that are offered during free time.

Equipment Lists

Each year we publish an equipment list to campers to help with packing. Please make sure all items are labeled with the youth name. Each year we have a lot of lost property at the end of camp and unlike previous years, anything left over will be donated rather than couriered back to parents! Equipment lists are available online at http://visummercamp.ca/equipment-lists.

Arrival & Registration

Youth are required to sign in when they arrive and meet with the first aid team to review their medical registration form and hand over any medications. If your child is being dropped off by another parent, please provide them with any information that may have changed since your registration, including medicine dosage, new medicines etc.

Questions, Comments or Concerns?

We have many new campers this year. If you have any questions, queries or concerns, you can contact the camp administrator by emailing admin@visummercamp.ca.

Phones & Electronics

The VI Scout Summer Camp is a technology free zone! It's a chance for youth (and adults) to unplug and enjoy outdoor adventure. We ask that no electronic devices are brought to camp including personal phones, games machines, ipods and bluetooth speakers.

Travel Arrangements

The VI Scout Summer Camp is held at Camp Woodlands on Cowichan Lake. Directions to the camp are posted on the website at http://visummercamp.ca/how-to-get-here-vancouver-island-bc. Driving times will be dependant on road conditions, please leave plenty of time.

Ferry Shuttle Bus

This year we are offering a shuttle bus service from Departure Bay at the start and end of camp for adults and youth traveling from the lower mainland. Due to time constraints, the bus will only operate at the times shown on the shuttle registration page. We ask that youth travel in full uniform to be easily identifiable. The bus will not wait for youth that are late or miss their ferry so please be mindful and plan with plenty of time. Youth traveling alone will be able to use a phone to contact parents once they are picked up by the shuttle bus to confirm arrival. The shuttle bus registration is available on the website at http://visummercamp.ca/shuttle-registration. The cost for the shuttle bus is $10 to cover fuel to and from camp. The shuttle bus will pick up the Horseshoe Bay - Departure Bay ferry passengers at 8.10am (6.30am Queen of Oak Bay sailing from Horseshoe Bay) and will drop campers back at Departure Bay on Saturday 11th August for the 3.30pm Sailing (Arrives 5.10pm Horseshoe Bay). Campers will need to pay for and arrange their own ferry tickets.

Open Mic Night

Don't forget your musical instrument, best jokes, skits or songs for the Open Mic Night! This is a popular event and you are welcome to bring any instrument or prop for your skit. Instruments can be stored with the adult staff, please let them know if you have one when you arrive at camp.

Uniform

Every year one or two youth arrive without their uniform. Scouts are required to wear their uniformto camp and for the official flag break and opening. We will be giving each camper a camp tee-shirt to wear during the week, but uniforms are required for opening and closing.
