About the Summer Camp

The Vancouver Island Summer Camp was first started in August 1997 and was held at Taylor Arm near Sproat Lake. At that time, the camp was

operated by the Island Region of Scouts Canada. We had easy walking to the beach and a great trail from the campsite to the beach.

In 1998 the camp moved to Marble Bay on Lake Cowichan, close to where it's held now. The camp stayed on this site until 2008 when a local developer took over the land and we had to find a new location. In 2008 we moved to Camp Woodlands, on the other side of the peninsula, also on Lake Cowichan, where we have held the Summer Camp every year since!

Each year we try to add more activities in that provide an experience of Scouting techniques and tools, using the skills the youth learn during the year, and a mix of adventurous activities that include watersports, archery, caving and more.

In the past our activities have included:

  • Decorative Knots (making woggles)
  • Leather Work
  • Wood Carving
  • Plaques with Knots
  • Patrol Gateways
  • Tent Inspections
  • Sailing
  • Caving
  • Canoeing
  • Archery
  • Trailcrafts

  • Rapelling/Abseling
  • High Ropes Course
